This is the official mobile safety app of the UBC Vancouver campus. It provides access to a variety of information such as emergency contact information, campus maps, and instructions for emergency response, and can send push alerts about safety issues on campus. Learn more or download on the UBC Safe webpage.

Emergency Preparedness

Regent College has done extensive preparation to maximize the safety of our community during various types of emergency. For a brief overview, see our Critical Incident and Crisis Management Policy. Students receive additional information about emergency preparedness during New Student Orientation and at other times as needed.

UBC's Safety and Risk Services office provides information about policies and procedures for responding to various types of emergencies on UBC campus. Much of this information is generally applicable throughout the Vancouver area. See UBC's page covering Types of Emergencies.

Earthquake Procedures

Students who are new to the Vancouver area should be aware that this is a seismically active area, meaning that earthquakes are always a possibility.

The key thing to know about earthquakes is that you need to Drop, Cover, and Hold On until at least 60 seconds after the shaking stops.

  • Drop to your hands and knees to avoid being knocked over.
  • Cover your head and neck with your arm. If possible, crawl under a desk, table, or other piece of sturdy furniture. If nothing like this is available, crawl to an interior wall and stay crouched or bent over. Your goal is to protect the most vulnerable parts of your body from debris or falling objects.
  • Hold On until the shaking has been over for at least 60 seconds. If you're under a desk or other shelter, hold on with one hand and be prepared to move with the furniture if it shifts around. If you don't have an object sheltering, hold onto your head and neck with your arms.

Additional information on Drop, Cover, Hold On and other earthquake safety essentials is available from the Government of BC or Great British Columbia Shake-Out.
