About Academic Advising
The following are just a few situations in which you might find Academic Advising especially helpful.
New Students
If you're a current or future program student, you're warmly encouraged to touch base with Academic Advising as you make decisions about your program and plan your courses. This is especially important if you have specific goals such as:
- Completing your program in a set amount of time
- Minimizing Vancouver residency
- Balancing your student workload with other personal or professional responsibilities
Note: If you have special accessibility needs due to a disability or ongoing medical condition, we encourage you to get in touch with Academic Advising at your earliest convenience. We want to make sure you have the support you need as you begin your program, including any academic accommodations to which you may be entitled. Continuing Students
Regular check-ins are both welcome and recommended! Academic Advising can help in a variety of situations, including the following:
- Questions about program requirements
- Planning a final project
- Changing your program or concentration
- Transferring credits from another institution
- Adjusting your study schedule to accommodate changing life circumstances
- Accessing academic support or resources

Special Registration
The majority of course registration should be done on REGIS. The following forms are used under specific circumstances. Click below to download a PDF copy.
- Final Project Form
- Guided Study Contract
- Greek or Hebrew Proficiency Exam Application
- Priority Enrollment Request Form (Note: REGIS will prompt you to fill out an electronic version of this form during the online registration process for most priority-enrollment courses. You do not need to submit a paper form if you have filled one out online.)
Student Status
- Leave of Absence Request Form
- Registration Verification Letter Request Form (Note: This letter serves to confirm the student's status as a full- or part-time student throughout a given academic year or a particular term. It can be used to help students acquire housing, employment, car insurance, etc. Please note that this is different from the online form that allows you to request a study permit renewal letter.)
Writing Help
Writing Centre
The Writing Centre offers 30-minute, one-on-one, collaborative sessions to assist students at any stage of the writing process—from narrowing a topic or working through a draft. You can book a Writing Centre appointment in person or via Zoom.
EAL/ESL Writing Centre
If you are a student for whom English is an additional language, you may find it most helpful to make an EAL/ESL Writing Centre appointment.
Student Writing Guide
The John Richard Allison Library hosts a general reference guide for writing papers at Regent.
Other Types of Advising
If you're facing a challenging life situation that affects your studies, you are more than welcome to make an academic advising appointment. Our Academic Advisor can help you think through options and access helpful resources.
You may also benefit from other types of assistance available in the Regent community.
Faculty Advising
Faculty members are available to meet with you to provide counsel on academic pursuits, personal development, professional goals, or spiritual matters.
Counselling
If you're seeking help with more acute personal or psychological issues, we encourage you to contact the Dean of Students Office and/or consult the information regarding Regent's Counselling Service.
