Rainbows are rare here because they require both rain
and a low-angled, unobscured sun. Most times
in Vancouver, rain seeps from a low-lying,
never-abating stratus cloud–a monochromatic
blanket of gray. But this June afternoon, this day of
our first meeting, conditions align: The refracted, dispersed
wavelengths of color shine; we behold the arc unfurled before us.
