Seminar: Vocation of the Artist

Course Description
The aim of this course is to create a “community of practice” for students who want to think seriously about what a vocation (a calling) in or to artmaking might mean (which may or may not include an occupation in the arts). Our coursework will focus on supporting and developing each student’s own particular artistic practices (visual, musical, literary, poetic, performative, etc.) and artistic research, fostering momentum toward future artistic activity, including an IPIAT proposal/project for students pursuing that route. More specifically, this course is meant (1) to provide a constructive-critical environment for the development of new artworks (potentially oriented toward an IPIAT project), (2) to facilitate new research and writing that supports and deepens this work (potentially oriented toward the IPIAT academic paper), and (3) to develop frameworks for understanding artistic practice in its theological dimensions.
This course has a maximum enrollment of 12 students.
To get into a priority enrollment course, you must register by the early registration deadline (see Important Dates) and must submit a Priority Enrollment Course Request (available through the "Additional Registration Requests" section of the Registration menu in REGIS or download it directly here) after completing your registration. Class lists will be determined within a week after the early registration deadline, and you will be notified by email shortly thereafter. First priority will be given to students who need a course for the program to which they have been admitted, and who have registered by the early registration deadline.
