Good mental health care is critically important, but modern medical models often target symptoms without addressing our relationships, stories, or deepest longings. Adopting a theological vision of human beings as wayfarers on a journey to God, this course explores how Christians can draw on the best insights of both theology and psychiatry to accompany people living with depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, dementia, and other mental health challenges.

North American society—and the demographics of the North American church—are changing fast. Churches and ministries need cultural intelligence to meet the needs of those they are called to serve. Yet North American evangelicalism throws up many barriers to the development of multiethnic churches. In this course we’ll use insights from socio-cultural exegesis and theological reflection to begin the practice of developing culturally intelligent communities.

The imagination is central to our understanding of ourselves and the world around us. In this course, we’ll look at how Christians have historically trained their imaginations, and we’ll consider how stories, symbols, art, and architecture can form our beliefs, practices, and character. Along the way we’ll meet unicorns, dragons, multi-coloured panthers, and many-headed beasts—and discover how all of them can teach us something about our faith.

What happens when we pray the Psalms? In this course, we’ll look at how the Book of Psalms contributes to the spiritual formation of Christians who prayerfully engage with it. In addition to learning from Christian writers through the centuries, we’ll consider insights from modern research into how texts affect their readers. Together, we’ll expand our understanding of how the Spirit works through the word in our lives.

What does the Bible have to say about race and ethnicity? In this course, we’ll examine various biblical texts and themes that speak to differences and commonalities among human beings. As we explore how the Scriptures can and should inform our concepts of race and ethnicity, we will consider how biblical theology provides resources for confronting racism, xenophobia, and ethnocentrism in our own contexts.

Taught by a Palestinian Evangelical Christian, this course is for all who seek to understand Scripture from a Christ-centred point of view. After unpacking some of the big questions of theology in the Palestinian context, this course offers theological reflections on major theopolitical concerns, including theology of the land, the Zionist project, war and peace, and the relationship between the Old and New Testaments.
