Learning as Transformation: Nurturing Faith in a Global Context
Course Description
We often lament the lack of truly transformed lives in the people God has called us to serve - despite the rich wealth of knowledge we have at our disposal, even more so in our information-saturated age. This course provides a vision for how God has designed people to change with a focus on learning as holistic transformation, rather than only by accumulating information. Grounded in an integrated and contextual understanding of whole life learning, we will examine the role of the imagination, embodiment, dialogue, critical reflection, as well as formation in global religious traditions. We will take a fresh look at some of the assumptions undergirding education, Christian formation, and ministry in general, and consider global/non-western contexts in particular. Blending interdisciplinary perspectives, theological reflection, research-based principles, and case studies, this course offers insights and practical application for anyone interested in nurturing transformational learning in a variety of formal, non-formal, and informal ministry contexts.Fall 2025
