Scholarships & Financial Aid

Studying at Regent College is a great investment, but we understand it can be costly. Our financial aid program aims to make Regent more accessible to students from every background.

Our Financial Aid Process

Regent offers financial assistance to program students on the bases of both financial need and merit. While each incoming class is different, in recent years Regent has been able to offer awards to approximately two-thirds of financial aid applicants!

Our simple process lets you fill out a single Financial Aid Application to be considered for all available scholarships and bursaries, as well as general need-based aid. Once you submit a Financial Aid Application, you’ll find out how much financial aid you can expect for the anticipated length of your program:

  • Graduate Diploma in Christian Studies (GradDipCS) – 1 year
  • Master of Arts in Christian Studies (MACS) – 2 years
  • Master of Arts in Theological Studies (MATS) – 3 years
  • Master of Divinity (MDiv) – 4 years
  • Master of Theology (ThM) – 1 year

As long as you continue to meet all eligibility criteria, you won’t need to reapply each year. (Note: If you do cease to meet the eligibility criteria—for example, by studying only part-time for a term—your award will lapse and you will need to re-apply.)

Financial aid will be posted directly to your student account for the Fall and Winter terms, automatically reducing the amount of tuition you need to pay.

Financial Aid Policies

Students must meet a number of criteria to qualify and maintain eligibility for financial aid and scholarships from Regent College, and the funding received must be used in specific ways. Please review the following information carefully.

Eligibility

The following criteria are necessary to qualify for financial aid and to maintain eligibility.

  • You must be admitted to a graduate program at Regent College.
  • You must be registered in a minimum of 6 credit hours in each term for which you receive financial aid. (Note: In establishing your eligibility for financial aid, audit hours and credit hours taken at another institution are not considered.)
  • You must not be on academic probation.
  • You must not receive any credit tuition benefit (e.g., Parachurch 50% Credit Benefit). This does not apply to audit tuition benefits; however, financial aid cannot be applied to the cost of auditing a course (see policy below).

Use of Funds

  • Financial aid may be used only for tuition for courses taken for credit at Regent College.
  • Financial aid funds may not be used to pay fees, tuition for auditing, or living expenses.
  • Spring and Summer Policy: Financial aid is not generally awarded for Spring and Summer Programs. However, students who meet financial aid eligibility criteria in the Winter term may use any remaining financial aid in their student accounts to pay for Spring or Summer course tuition, even if they are not taking a full course load during the summer.
  • Any funds that are not used within the academic year (September through August) will revert to the College. This will have no effect on your award for the following year.

Note: Financial aid funds must be declared as taxable income when filing your Canadian income tax. All non-Canadian students should apply for a Social Insurance Number (SIN) upon arrival in order to receive tuition receipts for tax purposes.

Named Scholarships & Bursaries

As a private, transdenominational school, Regent doesn’t receive any denominational support. That means that all student financial aid disbursed by Regent College is provided by our generous donor community. Many donors choose to support Regent students by funding specific scholarships and bursaries. Every year, Regent distributes dozens of these awards. Many of them are tied to certain qualifications, such as a geographical background, work or ministry experience, or vocational plans.

Named scholarships and bursaries generally do not require separate applications. Our financial aid team compares each financial aid applicant with all available scholarships, so you’ll automatically be considered for all the funding for which you’re eligible.

Occasionally, Regent offers scholarships designed to facilitate the work of continuing students. Examples include awards to students taking a specific course, funding for research in specific areas, and certain forms of emergency assistance. These may require a separate application to be submitted at some point during a student’s program—such opportunities are advertised in a variety of ways throughout the year.

Donor Support

Even if you never receive financial aid, you’ll benefit from the generosity of Regent donors. The tuition prices you see represent the cost of a Regent education after donors have covered around 30% of the College’s costs. You’re being supported by the global Regent family before you ever see a tuition bill.

I had planned to attend graduate school right after finishing my undergrad degree, but I had to put that plan on hold because of my financial situation and a family emergency. Over the last three years, my prayers and preparations for graduate school have been met with the anxiety-producing question of how to afford it. Receiving a scholarship eased that burden and made the difference between saying yes or no to Regent. It has given life and movement to my educational goals.”
